Hovering between creepy and enchanted, Sunset Park is a veritable sculpture gallery with installations stationed along a 1/4 mile of adventurous tunnels through the junipers. Though the path is short, it is loaded with intrigue—a peculiar treasure hunt. Wetlands and flower meadows border the outer end of the loop, providing an excellent panorama for admiring wildlife, notably bats. And a rogue pathway past one of the sculptures leads to a sweet stream.
We also found it a perfect place to read (the G-rated version of) A Midsummer Night’s Dream—what with Oberon manning the entrance….
UPDATE: Unfortunately many of the sculptures have been plundered in recent months so the tour is more of a nostalgic one through the ruins. But the tight tunnels through the cedars are ever-alluring and so much fun for little feet to whiz through. And there are plans underway for a renaissance here.
