Tucked between the beach, the railroad tracks and the Santa Barbara Zoo, the Andree Clark Bird Refuge is an understated hideaway for birds and wildlife. With three observation platforms jutting into the lake, floating turtles, a bumbling colony of rabbits, and trains zooming by just a few meters away, there’s plenty to keep a child intrigued. Not to mention the herons and other eye-catching birds hanging out on one of the lake’s three islands. Over 200 bird species have been observed here.
