Meher Mount

Meher Mount

Reverence for nature is inevitable when you take in the view at Meher Mount, which is exactly as Meher Baba intended. Affectionately called “Baba,” he was an important spiritual leader whose followers believe he was the Avatar (God in human form) of his era. Love is at the center of his message; and nature represents a pathway to God. Baba is also the one who coined the life lesson: “Don’t worry. Be happy.” – which somehow seems more achievable on this serene summit.

At 2,500 feet, the famous “Baba’s Tree” on Meher Mount overlooks Ojai Valley to the north, the Pacific Ocean and Channel Islands to the southwest, Santa Paula and the Santa Monica Mountains to the south, and the Topa Topa Bluffs in the Los Padres National Forest to the northeast. The tree and overlook are less than a 1/4 mile stroll from the parking area. There’s also a half mile walk downhill from the reception, which, we’re told, leads to a magical place as well.

A site of universal pilgrimage, Meher Mount is welcoming to all. We learned about this special place from the gracious caretakers who greeted us – and from the variety of printed resources offered.
