Dawn Chorus

Dawn Chorus

The dim, brisk, wee early morning is all yours, wrapped up together in a blanket relishing silent sips of hot chocolate, ears pricked up, eyes searching the dawn greyscape, no other life form awake except you. And then …. you and your little one can’t help but gasp as the silence is broken by the first whistling notes of bird song, joined almost immediately by many, many more. You let the concert wash over you as the sky lightens in the east and crooning silhouettes are backlit by gleams bursting through the tree canopies. The dawn chorus swells to its glorious crescendo. And you both agree to wake up before dawn again tomorrow 🙂

That’s what the Dawn Chorus is all about – an unforgettable moment that turns your garden into a stage, the birds into superstars and your child into a riveted audience. The annual International Dawn Chorus Day takes place on the first Sunday of May every year and all over the world, observed half an hour before sunrise in local gatherings – or just in the garden. But you can pick first blush of any spring day to admire the symphony of courtship serenades.
