Oh the fossil rush! It sets in as soon as you find the first shark’s tooth or ossified shell. But even without that amazing treasure hunt, the trail is a lovely adventure – meandering along the stream with ample beaches for hunkering down.
We were lucky to find a fossil – and so will you be, based on my casual survey of Poricy visitors – 100% of whom found at least 1. (Even 60 million years ago, sharks lost up to 35,000 teeth (each!) in their lifetimes, so your odds are pretty good :-))
Bring a screen and a hand trowel – and watch out for the glass that is even more abundant than the fossils.
NEARBY FOOTPATHS:
Big Brook Preserve, less than 20 minutes from Poricy Fossil Beds, is an equally lovely trail – and as generous with its fossils.
